The Monday Mix - Mi Scusi

Mike is off this week, and I'm filling in, and after watching "Eurotrip" last night, I'm starting to feel like I am more and more in control each day of Jivewired Radio and such. Don't tell Mike, Mike doesn't know. I can't believe he's so trusting.

After personally choosing and programing today's Monday Mix, I have to admit, this show has become my favorite part of filling in for Mike. It's almost addictive -- I got to pick 4 1/2 hours of music but I really started getting into it and before I knew it I had over 200 songs I wanted to include. Lucky for me, I get to do it again next Monday as well, so I'll get to choose some of the songs I eliminated today. And, of course, this is the second week out of three that we get to include a Fred Armisen reference. Fred has sort of become a cult figure here in the Jivewired Office.

Mi scusi, Mi scusi. Indeed.

So after watching Eurotrip, and seeing Matt Damon all punked up, I got to thinking.......It would have been really cool if Matt Damon really performed "Scotty Doesn't Know" in the movie. At any rate, he sold that role 100%, right? I mean he had the look, the mannerisms, the stage presence, the tats, the piercings, the spikes.....and, uh, Fiona. Great scene-stealing role for Matt Damon.

I did her on his birthday....and Scotty doesn't know.

Ouch.

Here's your trivia answer of the day -- the name of the band that REALLY performs "Scotty Doesn't Know" is Lustra. It's okay to Facebook like them, I am sure they are a fine group of guys. Here's a quick-link to their Facebook Page -- we know how much you guys *LIKE* that *LIKE* button: Click here to *LIKE* Lustra on Facebook

About Lustra (from their Facebook profile which I hope by now you have *LIKED*):

Born in a basement in Boston -- re-injected in an abandoned lingerie factory in Los Angeles -- LUSTRA rises again. Chris Baird (bass/vox,) Nick Cloutman (guitar/vox) and Jason Adams (lead guitar/vox) began in Boston. Formerly known as Seventeen -- and facing legal action from the publication of the same name -- the band relocated to Los Angeles and quickly made themselves known to the World.

If you would rather get to know Matt Damon better, or Kristin Kreuk (she played Fiona) as well, or instead, I am sure they are on Facebook. A little thinking outside the box here -- I bet at first Lustra probably thought it was cool that their song was included in the soundtrack with Matt Damon providing the theatrical lead, but maybe after a while, Lustra may have got sick of explaining that --

A.) Matt Damon is not REALLY their lead singer
B.) They probably never REALLY nailed Kristin Kreuk in their van

Maybe there IS a real-life Fiona though. If that's her in the video at the very bottom of this post, that's rock-tacularly amazing. And that would REALLY suck for the real-life Scotty.

Mi scusi, Mi scusi. Indeed.

The Monday Mix airs from 12:30PM to 5:00PM CDT each Monday and is designed to help you get through that brutal after-lunch, energy-sucking span that kicks off every work week. This particular set of a music will be a mix of old, deep album cuts and new indie music with a lot of genre crossover. No Adele. Sorry.

What else does The Monday Mix do? Well, it helps you discover new indie music by combining some really great under the radar tracks with more established songs that were, once in fact, under the radar as well. The hope here is that the culture shock of discovering your next favorite band won't be so enormously imposing if we surround the new stuff with some of your old, familiar friends.

Jivewired supports independent musicians by paying royalties for airplay on Jivewired Radio. Please help us support indie artists by listening to our station and by purchasing indie music. Thank you.

The links on the radio player will give you download options if you really dig on the music and some of the songs are offered for free.

Must See TV

City Correspondent Stefon from Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live

City correspondent Stefon gives Seth some top picks for Valentine's weekend in New York City.

Stefon Zolesky, better known as just Stefon is a character on Saturday Night Live, played by Bill Hader, who appears as the City Correspondent for New York City on Weekend Update with Seth Meyers. Seth Meyers introduces Stefon as a knowledgeable guide to New York City, with tips on some essential places for out-of-towners to visit.

Often Hader can be seen suppressing fits of laughter (known as breaking), as if some of the more outlandish descriptions are new to him. Hader, on late-night TV interviews, said that this happens with such frequency because changes are often made to the script up until the live show, and frequently Hader doesn't see the final cue cards until the live broadcast. As a result, some of the more outrageous things that Stefon says are relatively or completely new to Hader. "I have not gotten through a single Stefon update without breaking," Hader says. "Still working on it."

After being unable to perform the character without breaking for two and a half years, Hader successfully remained in character as Stefon during the season finale of the show's 36th season, with host Justin Timberlake. However, this appearance was much briefer than the others.
